Une soirée entre amis à Kuala Lumpur, Malaisie. Nous nous asseyons pour prendre un verre à une table dans la rue. C'est un bon moment à retrouver un couple d'amis en transit à KL avant leur retour vers Paris et avant mon retour vers Bangkok. Nous parlons, rions.. et je veux immortaliser cet instant avec une photo. Je vise l'ami qui me parle afin de lui tirer le portrait et, j'aperçois alors au second plan cet autre personnage que je n'avais pas encore remarqué hors mon viseur... Une fille? un garçon?.. difficile à dire... En tous cas quelqu'un dans un autre monde que le nôtre: Alors que nous passons un bon moment de rires et de joie, une table plus loin il semble seul, pensif et désabusé, presque prostré. Étonnant de voir que nous pouvons être si proches et à la fois si éloignés dans nos mondes respectifs... Saisissant contraste. L'oeil au viseur, je décide finalement de faire ma mise au point sur le personnage au second plan. Tanpis pour mon ami. La photo y a gagné je pense...
An evening to share with friends in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We decided to have a drink and sit at a table in the street. A nice moment to meet this couple of friends in transit in Kuala Lumpur, going back to Paris as i'm going back to Bangkok. We talk, laugh... and i want to capture this moment in a photograph. I put the camera at my eye and focus on my friend and then... i see in background this person who i haven't noticed before outside the camera finder... A girl? A boy? Difficult to tell... but definitely someone being in another world than ours: As we spend some good time of laughs and joy, just one table away someone is alone and looking sad, almost prostrate... So strange to see how close and far in the same time people can be... Striking contrast. Eye in my rangefinder, i decide eventually to focus on the background subject. My friend is blur, but the picture is better i think...
